HE IS AN ADVENTUROUS YOUNG MAN WHO LOVES TO CLIMB TREES!

The concept for the playroom came from the client’s request to design a facility for their son that would allow for play, exploration, and contemplation. Set within a contemporary home in Drury Cove Saint John, the inspiration for the design of their son’s playroom came from the house’s surrounding hilly lush landscape of trees and its proximity to the Kennebecasis River.

The design provides an indoor tree-house-like experience by applying solid maple wood segments to give shape to two distinct play areas – the drawing-room and exercise room. Maple wood veneer is also applied to millwork in the playroom giving shape to a kitchenette and a hidden door from their son’s room concealed within wall panels.

The exercise room is designed to allow for climbing and from an elevated hammock area, their son can connect with the river beyond. The subtle yet beautiful qualities of the maple wood enhance the indoor experience elegantly while symbolically maintaining a connection with the outdoors.
